about
The desire to change is a weird feeling and brings with it a dichotomy of emotions. You get a sense of wanting to move forward, of getting out of a (perhaps self-imposed) rut, but you also fear leaving behind the comfort and security of what you know. With ‘I Want To Change,’ I’m giving space to an inner voice that quietly yearns for change and amplifying it in a way, calling for change that speaks to both the global and individual scale. I wrote the song over a year ago, now placing it in the context of the current state of the world, that inner voice feels more like a call to action for myself.
lyrics
White, silver stripes, Blue dot, black star.
Big dreaming, little ants,
It’s just, who we are.
Square circles, running ‘round, on spare parts.
I want to change, our future, stop a war.
I want to change, I want to change what's to come I want to change, I want to change the book
I want to change, I want to change the subject
I want to change, into...
Deep red, old flags,
from the past, hanging down.
And the joy, the joysticks,
Army of drones, homeward bound. Clean green, green screen,
on my phone, I'm allowed.
To change, our future,
my future, from my couch.
I want to change, I want to change what’s to come I want to change, I want to change the book
I want to change, I want to change the subject
I want to change, into...
I want to change the way I feel
I want to change the way it looks
I want to change my attitude (I want to change)
My initials, my name (I want to change)
A butterfly in a cage (I want to change)
and you want the same (I want to change)
I want to change direction (I want to change)
I want to change, a raw resurrection (I want to change) and you want the same (I want to change)
I want to change

Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell

I haven't heard anything as just completely perfectly formed out of the gate--every decision the right one, what to include but more what to exclude--maybe ever. Don't know who Sault is, but they do not sound like they could be anyone who hasn't paid some dues to get this good. Or signed some Satanic contracts. 100% confidence, and it sounds 110% earned.
