about
(part of Nana's soon-to-be-released Big Dreaming Ants – The Remixes)
In his "Throw Stones" rework, Ranie Ribeiro interlaces airy, weightless flourishes with heavy, bulging beats that, together with Nana’s vocals, create a unique and captivating sonic dimension. When discussing the remix construction, Ribeiro notes: "Working on a ‘Throw Stones’ remix for Nana Adjoa was a bit of a challenge for me, as I was trying to add my own interpretation to something that already feels more than finished. I decided to strip it down and start with parts of Nana’s vocal and work from there. I soon noticed that her voice went very well with dub-like delays and reverb effects, which came to me as I was very much inspired by reggae legends King Tubby and Scientist at the time. I then decided to layer that on a more downtempo beat and once I had that all on lock, I was able to create an atmosphere that floats well around her vocals. To finish things off, I added a short harp solo which I recorded specially for this remix to give it more of a ‘live’ feel."
